Cultivate Farms

Your Farm, Your Legacy,
Your Community

We know how much your farm means to you. For years, you've worked to build a legacy, but you don't have family ready to take over the reins. The good news? You're not alone and your desire to leave a legacy can inspire something much bigger for you and your community.

You've spent a lifetime on this farm. How it changes hands matters.

Start with your plan. Read Ageing on Farm and work through it yourself, or sit down with us and we'll build it with you. It's the one thing we ask of every family before anything else, because handing on a farm is a big commitment.

Then, if you'd rather not carry it on your own, there are two ways we can carry it for you:

Your farm, in good hands. You keep your farm. We find the right next generation farmer, set up the arrangement that fits, whether sharefarming, a lease or another way, and look after it with you for as long as you want. It works where your farm can carry a good farmer and the numbers work for both of you.

The Cultivate Trust. Your farm moves into the Cultivate Trust, which runs it on your behalf, with the right farmer on it.

Bring others on board too. If your place can't hold a good farmer on its own, your neighbours' farms might be the answer, because we can run several farms in a district as one operation. And if your town wants to keep its farms, get your mayor to bring us in.

And if you'd rather find your own farmer, the guide shows you how.

What we can do with you

Your farm, in good hands

You're not on your own. If you'd rather not carry the farm on your own, we can carry it for you: we find the right next generation farmer, set up the arrangement that fits, and look after it with you for as long as you want.

The Cultivate Trust

There is a pathway for a farm to stay farmed and in local hands. A retiring family places their land in the Cultivate Trust, or local backers bring a farm in, and the right farmer goes on it, with a real way to make that farm their own.
