What have you been doing to get farm ready?

Both my husband and I have many years of farming experience, predominantly as employee's. We own a 40 acre farm but would like to move to a bigger property to drastically increase our current fat lamb business and to diversify. We have been operating our lamb business for over 8 years now, and whilst it is a very small operation it has enabled us to fine tune our practises and procedures. We have significantly improved on flock quality in many ways including foot confirmation and improved carcass yield.

Why are you passionate about farming?

Our passion is farming, producing an animal that is well looked after, ethically raised and tastes fantastic. We take immense pleasure from producing good looking animals and after the hard work of improving our sheep to date we look forward to building and growing the principle.

Best days of being a farmer:

Our aim would be to own a 300 plus acre farm, we are flexible on location but really value undulating topography and one of our highest priorities would be permanent water by the way of a creek or river and a family home. Our business idea is to grow our existing lamb business and add a tourism stream whether it be caravan sites along the creek frontage or cabins. We would like to have a paddock to plate farm shop and if we could find a winery with cellar door, maybe a small restaurant potential that would be the dream. Serving clients/guests ethically produced products that we have grown/nurtured from start to finish is the fantastic end result. Additionally my personal best days are lambing season!
