What have you been doing to get farm ready?

I left our family property only 8 years ago and since then I have stayed in contact with the farming community either through sales, customer relations and also some on hand experience. I am currently in Ag Machiery sales so I am in constant contact with not only the newest machinery infomation but also with all levels of people in the Ag Sector. In the past 12 months I have baled lucerne, drafted cattle, loaded cattle for transport to another property, loaded cattle for slaughter, mother cows and calves up together, fenced, quality inspected hay & straw, tlake d with feedlot operators on their requirements & needs, suggested other options to traditional fodder, looked for different machinery for feedlots and this is while I am selling new machinery to the Ag Sector.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I want to get back to farming as this is were the future is and also teach my children what it is all about. After spending time away from the family farm I have found a need to get back to what I enjoy doing and that is growing & feeding cattle and also the feed they require. I am on a daily basis talking with farmers in all aspects of the ag sector and it is really hitting home that this is where my heart lies. I talk with them about the latest in machinery and what works to the tried & tested ways that stil prove viable today.

Best days of being a farmer:

My ideal farm is somewhere on the Darling downs across to the coast where I can run cattle and a bit of cropping to produce not only feed for my stock but also sell. The cattle would be preferably beef cattle (even look at niche breeds) and the cropping would most likely be for feed but even go into hayproduction if the country is right with either irrigation or good rainfall (this is hard to find at times..) My best day would be when my kids are home from school we all go and muster and draft cattle for customers, stack hay or fertilise crop and at the end of the day all sit on the deck of the house and know we have worked hard for ourselves to make a better life.
