Whilst Chloe has recently graduated after completing a Bachelor of Accounting. She is currently working in the seed industry, whilst running a small operation rearing calves and milking a handful of our stud cattle. Todd is the only employee on a 300 cow farm. He currently handles the day to day running of the farm working a long side the owner.
We both come from families who have been dairy farming for over 100 years and we have both been heavily involved in our respective family operations. We have also taken the opportunity to work off farm; Todd relief milking and working in the artificial breeding industry, whilst Chloe has also milked off farm, she has also worked in the stock feed and seed industry as a representative or in an admin role. Chloe has experience leasing a dairy farm and due to our lease expiring last year we parked our herd.

What have you been doing to get farm ready?

We have our herd and retained all our heifers. Our cows are currently parked with a group of heifers due to start calving in the spring. Whilst we have some savings we don't have enough equity to purchase yet. We are working towards purchasing more assets however, with our growing numbers it's becoming increasingly difficult to park cows and we are facing the situation of having to destock. Whilst we would be making our asset liquid, our cows are our greatest asset because we know their history and their ability to milk. Furthermore, retaining would give us the largest return on our investment because our numbers would increase through natural increase. Providing us with a larger return than interest would on money invested in a bank. To us it makes sense for us to look for a lease (preferably) now to retain these animals and grow our assets. We also have a milk factory willing to collect our milking due to our previous results achieving outstanding milk quality. We just need the land!

Why are you passionate about farming?

We are passionate about dairy farming. Both of us have grown up on dairy farms and we love it! We both have an added interest in breeding and showing our registered cows. We share a love for working with cows and growing pastures aiming to improve our results each year.

Best days of being a farmer:

Our dream farm would be in Victoria, milking 150 Holsteins and Jerseys. Our best days would be grazing cows on well grown pastures and seeing our cows come into the dairy with plenty of milk. We dream to be self sufficient by growing the majority of our feed on farm.
