What have you been doing to get farm ready?

To become farm ready I have kept myself in the farming industry learning as much as possible about all facets of farming driving my career path into precision agriculture until recently stepping back to spend more time with my family. Originally hoping to be more involved with our family farm taking it into its 4th generation but succession planning has fallen through. We have been currently investing in property to try to build enough equity to buy farm land.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I believe that farming is a career choice and also a way of life. I’m extremely passionate about precision agriculture I believe using technology and informed decisions where possible will not only help our bottom line but drive growth and sustainability into the future. I also believe in the current climate we need to look a Value adding to drive sustainability.

Best days of being a farmer:

Our dream farm would consist of 8000Ha of mixed farm either dryland broadacre cropping running about 2000-3000 head of cross bred ewe’s or 2000Ha irrigation farm also running stock depending on location and water allocations. On our best days we would have the whole family on the farm either sowing the crop with the kids in the tractor or all on bikes and atv’s moving stock from one block to another the main aim is to be able to run a sustainable family farm with a strong business model that allows us to do other things we love with our family. We would also like to have decertification to maintain sustainability and help drought proof through value added services e.g. Live stock transport, direct marketing, contract agricultural services and paddock to plate tracking using social media and technology. We are pretty simple really we want to help feed to world while maintaining economic viability while building a business legacy that we hope one day our children inherit.
