What have you been doing to get farm ready?

My family and I are eager and ready to start this adventure at any notice. Over the past 4 years I have been working in the aquaculture industry. I have also been heavily involved in Research and Development projects and the integration of new technology to complement existing farming principals. My partner and I are very much hands-on people and have completely renovated our 1945 house without enlisting the help of trades. We have since sold the property and relocated back to rural NSW (staying with family), where I am currently working as a casual on local farms during the grain harvest. We plan to use the proceeds from the sale of our house to contribute to the capital required to start our dream.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I grew up on a cotton/broad acre farm in NW NSW, working on it from a young age. I feel at home when I am on the land, and have a great appreciation for the people who live and work it. Charne spent a lot of her early life around her family's flower farm, fuelling here passion for farm ownership. She is also open to a wildlife rehabilitation opportunity. We would love for our two boys to grow up the way we were fortunate enough to be able to, and pass our passion for the land to the next generation. We have both lived in Brisbane and the Gold Coast Cities, and have absolutely no desire to ever live and work in an urban environment again. We are completely dedicated to finding an opportunity for our family to live and work in the countryside.

Best days of being a farmer:

Our ideal farm would be located in Coastal NSW (up to 3 hours from the coast). My family and I love the NSW countryside and travelled along it 4 years ago over 4 months. We have a bold but realistic aspiration of a mixed biodynamic farm, including agriculture (livestock and cropping), possibly inland-aquaculture, and with room for tourism. We are confident in applying the foundations of our existing skillset to create something quite unique, economically viable, as well as sustainable. We also recognise that there is a lot to learn and welcome this; we believe that diversifying farming is essential to the future and prosperity of agriculture. Our best days would be spent working together as a family to make our dream come true, whilst knowing that what we are doing will give our children a great opportunity to continue working and living this dream.
