What have you been doing to get farm ready?

I currently run a 5ha school hobby farm and teach agriculture at high school level. In 11 years we have used no chemicals, have holistically managed a Poll Dorset stud. We now have no Pattersons Curse or St Johns Wart, the two most dominant plants 11 years ago. We tested weaner lambs this year for worms and have none. We successfully show these sheep and also 8 head of cattle. More farm ready experiences below.

Why are you passionate about farming?

I grew up on a sheep and cattle farms east of Holbrook, NSW. I loved it, but left and pursued a career in Agronomy and eventually Consulting. I have always missed it. Knowing what I now know about Holistic and Regenerative farming, Having successfully managed a 142Ha with 176 head of cattle share farm, and a 600Ha lease farm with 480 dairy heifers, I am ready to stop teaching it and do it for the rest of my life. I love it!

Best days of being a farmer:

My dream farm is close to the coast north of Sydney to Sth Qld. I run beef cattle and spend my days monitoring pastures, moving cattle, weighing cattle and monitoring weight gains, stocking to capacity, selling and buying strategically based on carrying capacity. I sell before oversupply drive prices down, and buy before demand drives price up. My carrying capacity keeps improving. I have time for family and enjoy socialising with neighbours and community.
