What have you been doing to get farm ready?

I have completed a Masters of Science in Agriculture from the University of New England I have been working as an agronomist

Why are you passionate about farming?

Despite having grown up in Sydney my grandfather had a small farm in the Southern Highlands of NSW, where he ran Herefords and grew potatoes and other vegetables. When i was growing up i was always wanting to visit whenever i could and get outside and help him out. During holidays i would always go and help out on the farm. Through this exposure i have developed a strong passion for farming. I love being outside and being in the natural environment; the sights, sounds and the freedom are captivating. During high school i pursued my passion by studying agriculture. After school i went straight into a mechanical engineering degree, graduated and then worked as an engineer. I wasn't 100% happy and i quickly realised this was not the career for me. Farming and the outdoors was always on my mind. Hence i turned to my passion: agriculture and farming. I have requalified and have been working in this field in various agronomy based positions for a couple of years now. I am now a lot happier then previously. My ultimate goal and dream is to follow in the foot steps of my grandfather and have a farm of my own.

Best days of being a farmer:

My ideal farm would be in the higher rainfall regions of northern NSW or south east Queensland, in the foothills surrounding the Great Dividing Range. I have a preference for this region as i don't like the extreme cold and i am naturally drawn to undulating country. I would like to run a diverse operation, with the main enterprise being grassfed cattle and side operations including native bush foods and honey. This combination would allow me to combine my passions and interests in beef cattle (particularly herefords), agronomy and the Australian bush. I would like to run my farm with as few chemical inputs as possible with organic certification being the end goal. On the best days i would be up and about by sunrise inspecting my cattle, planning any husbandry or management operations for the day and then tending to my native bushfood plots. To help me to accomplish some of my day to day activities I would also aim to use a drone.
